ABOUT THE CARNRIKE NAME

After researching court, census, cemetery, newspaper, church, and various other records on the family name, one learnsthat the largest problem is the variant spellings.

Forms of our family name (which alwayshas two syllables) include the following:

CARNRIKE, CARNRIGHT, CANRIGHT, CARNRICK,CARNRITE, CARNRYCK, CARNRWRIGHT, CANRITE, CANWRIGHT, CONRIGHT, CONRIKE, CONRITE,CONWRIGHT, CORNRIGHT, GARNRECK, GARNRYCK, GANRYCKE, GERNRECK, GERNRRIC,GERNREICH, GERNRYK, KARNRIJK, KARNRYCK, KARNRYK, KARNRYKE, KERNRICH, KERNRIKE,AND KERNRYK.

The forms having two "R's" are theolder, and of them, those beginning with "G" are the earliest, those with"K" come next, and those with "C" are the latest.

Ulster County N.Y. State CARNRIKE'swho moved west, first to Michigan and later to Minnesota, South Dakota,Washington, California, etc., dropped the first "R" and became "CANRIGHT"or "CONRIGHT."
